The 86th letter: Mental Health Week

Dear Governor Haslam:

This is my 86th letter to you.  I have missed a couple of days as life, as it often does, got in the way.  My apologies.

The first week of October is mental health awareness week.  The single greatest thing that could happen in Tennessee for the mentally ill would be access to treatment.  Over  80,000 dont have it.  They live in the coverage gap

Many of the things I read about in the paper about trying to help the mentally ill and about the tremendous good that would do for our society in general make no sense without access to services.

If a member of your family had a serious mental illness and you had no way to get them help what would you do?

Open the conversation about Tenn Care.  It is long past time to move towards expansion.

Until tomorrow.

Yours truly,

Larry Drain
